Glido’s Voyage

Overview

Glido’s voyage is a VR series about an AI robot on a mission of curiosity with her colourful crew of droids.  Glido is fascinated with the human species and is determined to understand their world.  The children are invited to join her on her journey in VR and see the world through fresh eyes.  In Glido’s adventures children can journey through the depths of the oceans, explore the inner workings of the human body, travel back in time to the early pyramids and gain a compassionate understanding of climate change.

Designed for learning, not teaching

Glidos voyage was designed as an educational delivery device.  The goal was to create a cast of characters that children can engage with and learn alongside them.  With this concept we didn’t want to talk down to the children, instead our approach was to partner with and meet the children on their level.  The characters were to be innocent to our human ways so that the children can observe them trying to understand the world in which ‘we’ live in, to give the children a feeling of knowing and that they are in fact the ones who have the inside knowledge and together with the crew they can all learn about our human world.

“Munk studios have a great understanding of the way children learn and intuitively know what is feasible in the VR medium.” Tamzin Smith (Education Group)

The Glido VR Package

In the Glido’s Voyage VR workshops, children are onboard Glido’s ship in a gaming environment where they will join the crew in exploring a specific subject based upon learning objectives in the curriculum.  The children can see the crew interact with each other as they learn using a series of visual devices.  They can simply look out of the front window where they can see live action footage of historical monuments, technical innovations or even CGI recreations of the Egyptian pyramids or the afterlife.  For more complex concepts, a projector screen is rolled down for the children to view informative graphic animations combined with a holographic console where 3D diagrams can be viewed.  On the journey, they will discover a range of informative content at a steady pace over a series of modules.  Once the narrative element is complete, the children can then explore the databank module, which has a range of interactive content for the children to explore and consolidate their learning at their own pace.
